The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
