The Princess of Wales's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
