The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
