PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
