President Trump Calls Families of Injured Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the government to pause refugee claims and cease granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
