New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.
“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”
NYPD released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
