Cameron Norrie earned the most notable win of his career by rebounding from a lost first set to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had before overcome Alcaraz on two separate matches, this triumph represents Norrie's maiden win over a sitting world No 1.

"Huge. So big for me," said Norrie, who is now the newest English competitor in history to overcome a world No 1. "Returning from health issues last year, I lost in the first round of qualies here. Norrie, seeded 31st globally, also ended Alcaraz's supreme run of nine consecutive finals and 17 consecutive Masters 1000 wins, which marked the finest stretch of results in the young champion's developing professional path.

Alcaraz appeared to be advancing smoothly to success in the beginning as he cruised past the first set.
