Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
